		Ystradgynlais lies in the preserved county of Powys, a large county in central and east Wales covering the former administrative counties of Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire, most of Brecknockshire and a small part of Denbighshire. It is a mountainous county making north-south transportation by car quite difficult, however its main attraction is the variety of breath-taking scenery with rolling hills and rugged mountains, spectacular passes, gentle valleys and dense forests. Its main towns include Brecon, Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells, Llanidloes, Machynlleth, Newtown and Welshpool.

	Dan yr Ogof Caves, Abercrav, Upper Swansea Valley. Tel: 01639 730284. Experience the great Dan yr Ogof Day Out, and discover the largest showcave complex in Western Europe. Continual cutting and washing by a river through limestone rock has left startling and beautiful stalagmite deposits which have to be seen to be believed. About 6 miles north of Ystradgynlais.

	Aberdulais Falls, Aberdulais, nr Neath, Neath & Port Talbot, SA10 8EU. Tel: 01639 636674. Famous waterfalls and fascinating industrial site. The largest waterwheel currently used in Europe to generate electricity. Turbine house providing access to an interactive display, fish pass and observation window.
