Welcome to our page of accommodation in Youlgreave!
Youlgreave is a quiet, peaceful village, now mainly devoted to
farming. It was once one of the centres of the Derbyshire lead-mining
industry, some of the old lead mines are still used for the extraction
of fluorspar and calcite. Youlgreave is surrounded by glorious
countryside and winds its way along a narrow limestone shelf
between two of the areas loveliest valleys, Bradford Dale
to the south drops sharply down with little cottages and their
gardens clinging to the side of the valley, while further north
is Lathkill Dale, considered to be Derbyshires finest dale.
Youlgreave's long, narrow village street runs for about one and
a half miles, past stone cottages, village shops, three pubs
and a fine church, Norman in origin. The parish church of All
Saints is a magnificent structure, second only in size to Tideswell. |
