The Yorkshire Dales National
Park stretches from narrow and winding Swaledale and broad Wensleydale
in the north to the more rugged Littondale and Ribblesdale and
broad Wharfedale in the south.
The Dales are very beautiful,
sheltered from the exposed high tops of the limestone moorland.
The region features austere stone villages with simple, functional
architecture, streams and rivers cutting through the hills, wide
empty moors and endless stone walls snaking over the slopes.
The Leeds - Settle - Carlisle
railway passes through here, providing access to a series of attractive
towns.
