Winsford is located in the heart of rural Cheshire. The
M6 motorway is six miles to the east giving easy access to all
parts of the UK. The town developed as the result of large salt
deposits and was the main area in the world for salt production.
The river Weaver was was transformed into a canal to allow salt
to transported to Northwich and Liverpool for export. Salt washed
out of the rock causing collapse forming "Flashes"
(photo) which are now used for sailing & fishing. Vale Royal
Borough Council has it's headquarters in Winsford. Winsford offers
a good range of large chains & small shops, banks, building
societies, estate agents and a post office. Winsford is 17 miles
from Chester, 28 miles from Manchester,
and 30 miles from Liverpool.
