Welcome to our page of
information, attractions and places of interest around Whitby.
The bed and breakfast in Whitby listed below are either
in the town or we have given a rough guide as to how far it is
from Whitby. Whitby is a thriving holiday resort. Whitby is beautifully
placed on the coast and right next to the North Yorkshire Moors
National Park. The ruins of St. Hilda's Abbey, high on the East
Cliff looks down on Whitby's maze of alleyways, narrow streets
and busy quayside. From the town thousands of visitors enjoy
climbing the 199 steps which lead to the parish church of St.
Mary, whose churchyard inspired Bram Stoker to write his book,
Dracula. Another famous name associated with Whitby is Captain
James Cook, the 18th century explorer and voyager. A replica
of Captain Cook's ship "HM Bark Endeavour" sits in
the harbour. A pair of whale jaw bones (photo) is a land-mark
of the town. Whitby Jet is known for it's soft texture, dense
black colour and high polish. |
