Whaley Bridge is an attractive small town in the High Peak, known as the Gateway to the Goyt Valley, an area ideal for walkers and tourists. Whaley Bridge has pubs, restaurants and takeaways, antique shops and a libary. Whaley Bridge is 20 miles west of Sheffield 18 miles south of Manchester, seven miles north of Buxton, and nine miles north east of Macclesfield. Whaley Bridge is on the Peak Forest Canal making it popular with boat lovers. There is a barge-restaurant on the canal wharf.

One of the grandest buildings in Cheshire, Lyme Park was originally a Tudor house and transformed into an Italianate palace by the Venetian architect Leoni. The house is set in several hundred acres of parkland and woodland where deer abound. It is bordered by a sunken Dutch garden, rose gardens and a great conservatory set above an attractive lake.
