 Welshpool lies in the preserved county of Powys, a
large county in central and east Wales covering the former administrative
counties of Montgomeryshire, Radnorshire, most of Brecknockshire
and a small part of Denbighshire. It is a mountainous county
making north-south transportation by car quite difficult, however
its main attraction is the variety of breath-taking scenery with
rolling hills and rugged mountains, spectacular passes, gentle
valleys and dense forests. Its main towns include Brecon, Builth
Wells, Llandrindod Wells, Llanidloes, Machynlleth, Newtown and

Offa's Dyke Path is one of twelve designated
National Trails. Built by Offa, King of Mercia in 757 to 796
AD the dyke formed the boundary between England & Wales,
running 182 miles from Prestatyn in the north to Sedbury, near
