Truro was a busy port in the 19th and 20th centuries, and before this was a large mining and agricultural area. Truro shopping centre has an interesting mix of specialist shops and multinational stores. The Cathedral was built on the site of the 16th century St Mary the Virgin Parish Church. Station: ST AUSTELL. 10miles. Travel by road via the M5 motorway and A30 or A38; turn off the A390 St. Austell to Truro road on to the B3287 road to Tregony. Then take the A3078 (St. Mawes road) and 2 miles further on fork left for Veryan and Portloe, turning left at the T-junction for Portloe. On arrival, you are assured of space in the private hotel car park.
