 Pais Valencia is the region
hugging the Mediterranean along the eastern coast of Spain. It
is a lush and fertile area with orange, lemon and peach groves,
and even rice fields irrigated by systems devised by the Moors.
Here you will find deserted beaches, pretty hilltop villages
and the historic towns and cities of Valencia, Alicante and Cartagena.
The region is divided into 3 provinces - Alicante, Castellon
and Valencia. It is bounded to the north by Cataluna and Aragon,
to the west by Castilla-La Mancha, to the south by Murcia and
to the east by the Mediterranean Sea. Every year holiday-makers
are drawn to the beaches of the Costa Blanca, the Costa del Azahar
and the Costa Calida. |
 Torrevieja sits between Alicante in the north
and Cartagena in the south. It is surrounded by two large natural
saltwater lagoons, which form the well-known “Salterns of
Torrevieja”. Torrevieja is known for its beaches with their
fine sand and crystal clear waters. With an average of 320 days
sunshine each year, the area is regarded by the World Health
Organisation as having the healthiest climate in Europe. The
area has a huge community of English and German residents. Apart
of the salt industry, tourism and fishing keep the city alive.
The city gets its name from an old tower (vieja meaning old and
torre meaning tower), first mentioned around 1800; it has a
very picturesque town square. |
