 Athassel Priory was a foundation of the Augustinian
Canons Regular. The priory was one of the largest mediaeval priories
in Ireland, founded about 1200 by William de Burgo, a Norman
knight and kinsman of Henry II. He was buried a few years later
within the walls. The two original altar stones can be seen in
the south transept. About

Rock of Cashel served as the traditional seat of the Kings of
Munster, although the majority of buildings on the current site
date from the 12th and 13th centuries. It is one of the most
remarkable collections of Celtic art and medieval architecture
