Tideswell is a large village in the heart of the Peak District
and is one of the most ancient settlements there. Tideswell received a market charter
in 1250 and flourished in the wool and lead trades in the 14th
century, explaining the lavishness of the church. Dedicated to St. John the Baptist, it is known as
the Cathedral of the Peak and is a glorious church with a soaring
Perpendicular tower,superb fittings, carvings and brasses. The
village has a range of shops and a bank, inns, restaurants and
2 fish and chip shops. The George Hotel is an historic 18th Century
Coaching Inn with exceptional character. Tideswell is a maze
of alleyways and lanes, stone cottages and substantial houses,
many buildings of architectural interest. Tideswell now has a
new touchscreen kiosk located at the main bus stop providing
