 Staithes Heritage
Centre and the Captain Cook Museum, High Street, Staithes, Saltburn-By-The-Sea,
Cleveland TS13 5BQ Tel: 01947 841454. The museum is housed in
the old Methodist Chapel. The ground floor has extensive displays
of lives of the past residents of Staithes, whilst the upper
floor is crammed with exhibits from the life and voyages of Captain
James Cook. There is a life-size street scene of 1745 and over
200 books dating from 1773, of Cook' s life and journeys. Location: In the centre of Staithes. |

in ancient fishermens cottages, blending costumed characters

Whitby Abbey, Whitby Tel: 01947 603568. From
high on its commanding cliff top, Whitby Abbey overlooks the
picturesque fishing town of Whiby. The haunting ruins are now
maintained by English Heritage, and were once the inspiration
for Bram Stoker's "Dracula". About
8 miles southeast of Staithes. |

Cleveland Way is a 110 mile National Trail between Helmsley and
Filey via Osmotherley, Saltburn, Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Ravenscar
and Scarborough, around the North York Moors National Parks.
It passes right through Staithes. Location: In the centre of Staithes. |
