		Southend-on-Sea lies in the county of Essex, a large county northeast of London with water on 2 sides. It has areas of flat agricultural scenery, undulating and pretty that suited English watercolourists. Narrow lanes wind through meadows past weather-boarded mills and unfenced fields, while flinty church towers can be seen from tree-lined hilltops. There are impressive historic towns such as Colchester to visit and charming villages of old houses such as Thaxted and Dedham.

Planetarium, Southend Museum - A chance to explore the night sky. Discovery Centre, Southend Museum Opened in 2000, the Discovery Centre is full of 'hands-on' activities for everyone to enjoy. 	Southend Pier. At over a mile long, Southend Pier was originally opened in 1830, and in 1890 the first electric trains started running the length of the pier. Today the future of the pier is unclear. Location: In the centre of Southend-on-Sea.

	Priory Park, Victoria Avenue / Priory Crescent, Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Tel (01702) 342878. One of the town's largest parks with a walled Centenary garden featuring bedding displays with rose and laburnum arches. The museum is housed in the remains of the Cluniac Priory of St. Mary's, founded in the early 12th century by Robert fitzSuen. Location: In the centre of Southend-on-Sea.
