main market towns serving the Yorkshire Dales and is well-known
as the starting point of the Settle-Carlisle Railway and as a

Once famous for its cattle and sheep fairs, the hub of the town
is still the market place which is flanked by 17th century buildings.
The Shambles in the market square was originally a medieval butchers
