Historical sites there include the Courthouse where Walter Scott served as Sheriff for 30 years and a statue to Mungo Park the famous 18th century explorer who was born close-by. Visit the town in June to witness one of the most traditional pageantry events. The Selkirk Gathering, or Common Riding is the largest of the Border Ridings, and this festival dates back to the Battle of Flodden in 1513. 	Bowhill House & Country Park. Tel: 01750 22204 Admission charges apply. Home of the Duke of Buccleuch & Queensberry and sited in the middle of extensive parkland. The house itself contains an outstanding art collection, with a wide range of work from the masters, tapestries and superb French furniture, Sevres and Meissen china, and silver. About 3 miles west of Selkirk.
	Halliwell's House Museum & Robson Gallery, Selkirk Tel 01750 20096 This museum explores and reveals the life of Selkirk through the ages. In the centre of Selkirk.
	Sir Walter Scotts Courtroom, Selkirk Tel: 01750 20096 The building in Selkirk where Sir Walter Scott sat as a Sheriff of Selkirk from 1804 till 1832. Now a museum which explores his life, his writings and especially his time as a Sheriff. In the centre of Selkirk.
	Aikwood Tower, Ettrick Valley, near Selkirk Tel: 01750 52253 A very fine 14th century peel tower restored in 1992 and the home of Lord and Lady Steel of Aikwood. The present tower was rebuilt about 1602. Its walls are only about 4 feet thick and above the dungeons, all three stories are restored. There is a small medieval garden, stocked with rare ancient plants, a car park and a small shop. About 5 miles southwest of Selkirk.
