Originally a Franciscan convent, built in 1587,
this magnificent hotel overlooks the heart of the Chianti wine
region and is a few kilometres from the medieval city of San
Gimignano. The rooms, which are furnished in a style that reflects
the Sienese Renaissance palaces, are located in the former cloister.
The top-floor rooms overlook the 13 towers of San Gimignano.
Spend long afternoons swimming in the hotel's ample pool or strolling
in the beautiful, Italian-style garden opposite the ancient building,
whose warm, sober tones of pietra serena blend perfectly with
the shapes and proportions of Tuscan Renaissance architecture.
In the evenings, you can dine under the Roman vaulting of the
ancient chapel, which is richly decorated in sumptuous red and
gold. |
