Sandbach, pronounced Sandbatch, is a pleasant, historic market town in south east Cheshire. It has good communications being half a mile from Junction 17 on the M6 motorway. The Trent and Mersey canal passes through the town bringing numerous tourists in the summer. The surrounding countryside is mainly attractive dairy farmland and Sandbach has grown rapidly in recent years as a dormitory town for the adjacent conurbations of Greater Manchester, Merseyside and the Potteries. Biddulph Grange Garden

Attractions The Sandbach Crosses are two heavily carved Saxon stone crosses located in the town of Sandbach. They are believed to date from the 9th century, to commemorate the advent of Christianity in the Kingdom of Mercia about 653 A.D. during the reign of the Saxon King Penda. They are decorated on all faces with carved figures, animals and vine scrolls. The taller cross shows biblical scenes and has a mutiliated head. The shorter cross has a truncated shaft with the mutilated head of another cross. Location: In the centre of Sandbach in the market place.
