Welcome to our page of self catering accommodation in Saffron Walden! Saffron Walden is an historic medieval town. Saffron Walden's name was coined in medieval times when saffron crocuses where cultivated here for their dye and medicinal use. The town has a wealth of timber-framed houses and decorative plasterwork, with a fine example on the celebrated Old Sun Inn. Saffron was in great demand for the woollen industry and brought wealth to the town. The town is close to, but largely undisturbed by, Stansted airport and has excellent links to Cambridge. A market is held in the Market Place every Tuesday and Saturday (except for Bank Holidays) throughout the year. Saffron Walden is 10 miles north of Stansted airport, 8 miles west of Haverhill and 14 miles south of Cambridge.
