Romsey is a small market town on the River Test about
8 miles north of Southampton. The town grew up around a nunnery,
but the Romsey Abbey we see today is a marvellous example of
Norman (Romanesque) and Early English architecture. For centuries
Romsey has been a traditional market town with its market charter
originally held by the Abbess of Romsey Abbey. Today Romsey retains
its street markets as well as a thriving town centre with shops,
restaurants, pubs and cafes. |
