Richmond Yorkshire stands
at the eastern edge of the Yorkshire dales. As well a good selection
of shops, it has an impressive Norman keep overlooking a waterfall
on the river Swale. Richmond is the only town of any size
in Swaledale, one of the most northern valleys of the Yorkshire
Dales national park. Perched on a steep hill above the River
Swale the town is its famous castle. Besides this and other local
attractions Richmond makes a good base for touring the northern
dales.
