Nestling among the peaks of the Cambrian
mountains, Rhayader is the oldest town in Mid-Wales, dating back
to the 5th century. Rhayader lies in the very heart of Wales,
halfway between Hereford and Aberystwyth, and halfway between
Snowdonia and the Brecon Beacons. It is set 700ft above sea level
in the beautiful Upper Wye Valley, with hills rising to over
1500feet. Rhayader is a busy and historic market town, the first
town on the banks of the River Wye and an important centre for
the farming community with its flourishing livestock market.
Rhayader is the ideal base for outdoor activities such as bird-watching,
mountain biking, pony trekking, walking, caravanning and fishing.
Rhayader is 36 miles from Welshpool, 31 miles from Aberystwyth
and 10 miles from Llandrindod Wells. Also see Rhayader.
