From Reading you can explore the county of Berkshire, often referred to as the Royal County of Berkshire as Windsor Castle lies within its boundaries. Berkshire borders the counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Wiltshire, Hampshire and Greater London. It is known as one of the Home Counties and the county town is Reading. Berkshire has been the scene of many battles throughout history; it has stately homes, abbeys, castles and museums to visit, while the Berkshire Downs are part of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The Museum has three main galleries devoted to the River Thames, the international sport of rowing and the town of Henley. There are also three special exhibition galleries, the Riverside Café, shop, Education Centre, library and function rooms. The building is raised on columns above water meadows beside the Thames and is built of exposed concrete and glass with a terne coated steel roof, clad in green oak. www.rrm.co.uk. River & Rowing Museum Henley on Thames
