Polegate attractions

		From Polegate the rural and coastal county of Sussex can be accessed. The county is now divided into East and West Sussex and is bounded on the north by Surrey, east by Kent, south by the English Channel, and west by Hampshire. It is an area with a fertile coastal plain along which are scattered numerous resort towns including Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne, Seaford, Brighton, Shoreham-by-Sea, Worthing, Littlehampton and Bognor. The South Downs Way runs along the grassy ridge of the South Downs, giving splendid views over the countryside and the coast over the chalk cliffs of Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters.

	Glynde Place, Glynde, East Sussex BN8 6SX. Tel: 01273 858 224. A magnificent Elizabethan manor house looking out from its position high on the rolling Sussex Downs over the weald. It was built in 1569 from flint and Normandy stone which was brought across the English Channel in barges. Includes a collection of Old Masters such as Canaletto, Guardi, Zuccarelli and Batoni. www.glyndeplace.com. About 7 miles west of Polegate.

The Waterfront, our superb harbour-side development of cafés, bars, restaurants and shops, provides a haven where boat-owners can relax. 	Filching Manor Motor Museum, Jevington Road, Wannock, Nr Polegate, East Sussex, BN26 5QA. Tel: 01323 487838. fifteenth-century Wealden hall-house include a 1907 Corbin 'Vanderbilt Cup' racer, Sir Malcolm Campbell's 'Bluebird' speedboat, Alfa Romeos and Bugattis. Toilets, Parking, Cafe, Souvenir shop, Access for the disabled. The museum also has a number of aeronautical exhibits. Location: About 1 mile south of Polegate.
