 The county's greatest attraction has 3 great towers that dominate the city and can be seen from miles around. The central tower stands 271 ft high, the second highest in the country after Salisbury Cathedral. Built on the orders of William the Conqueror, construction began in 1072. The entrance is below the famous mid-12th century frieze on the west front.
