Although the Peak
District is chiefly in Derbyshire it spills over into 5 adjoining
counties. With pretty villages, historic sites, market towns,
limestone caves and rugged moorland, the Peak District is an
area of vastly contrasting scenery.
The Dark Peak in the north
is harsher and wilder with moorlands
on harsh gritstone, while the more pastoral White Peak in the
south has green fields patterned
with drystone walls, divided by deep - cut dales.
The Pennine Way has
its southern end at Edale whilst other parts of the Peak are
criss - crossed
with cycling and walking
trails along the now disused railway lines.
