Welcome
to our page of information, attractions and places of interest
around Otley. The Otley hotels listed below are
either in the town or we have given a rough guide as to how far
they are from Otley. From Otley you can explore the beautiful
Yorkshire Dales, a lovely upland area of limestone hills and
pastoral valleys at the heart of the Pennines. We hope you enjoy
your stay and find your ideal accommodation.
Otley is a small Yorkshire market
town set on the banks of the River Wharfe. It is an ancient,
friendly and picturesque town with a rich commercial and community
life. Otley lies in attractive countryside in Mid-Wharfedale
at the centre of the rural triangle between Leeds, Harrogate
and Bradford. South of the town rises Otley Chevin, a geological
feature, which gives magnificent views over Mid-Wharfedale, and
in the past provided much of the stone from which the town centre
was built. Much of the town centre is 18th or 19th century or
earlier and has Conservation Area status. Otley has been here
from about the mid-Eighth century, when Otta made his Leah or
clearing in the forest. Thomas Chippendale, the English cabinet
maker, was born in Otley in 1718. Also see Otley.
