	Ossett - Sport - Ossett Rugby Union Football Club have a proud history and playing record in Yorkshire Rugby with their roots and traditions being traced to the 1890's.

	Ossett - Shopping - Ossett is a pleasant market town developed around a large central area which has recently been refurbished for improved pedestrian usage and as the location for a twice weekly market. Ossett Brewery are famed for their award winning beers and form part of Wakefield's Brewery Trail.

	Ossett - Other information - The "World Coal Carrying Championship" takes place every Easter Monday in Gawthorpe, a small village situated on the outskirts of Ossett. The main event is the men’s contest and starts at The Royal Oak, from where competitors, each carrying 50kg of coal, have to run close on a mile as quickly as possible before being allowed to drop the sacks of coal at the foot of the Maypole which stands on the village green. Women also run the same course as men carrying 20kg of coal..
