		Nuneaton lies in the county of Warwickshire, part of the southern Midlands and a Heart of England county. Here the rolling green countryside is dotted with an array of historic towns and villages, stately homes and magnificent castles such as Warwick and Kenilworth. Warwickshire is best known for being the birthplace of William Shakespeare from Stratford-upon-Avon. The county town is Warwick, although the largest town is Nuneaton in the far north of the county.

	Mary Ann Evans was an English novelist. It is said she used the male name George Eliot to ensure that her works were taken seriously. She was one of the leading writers of the Victorian era. She was born near Nuneaton, and there is a statue of her in the town. (Photo right). In Nuneaton.
