The north eastern
region extends from Alnwick with it's magnificent castle in the
north, with beaches and rugged coastline to the east. It borders
the western lakes and touches Scotch
Corner and the Tees valley in the south.
The area's famous castles
stand as reminders of the region's remarkable history, with medieval
towns and villages to visit, and
some of the finest church architecture in
the country - Durham Cathedral, Hexham Abbey and the ruined priories of Gisborough and Finchale.
Northumbria is packed
with stately homes and gardens, museums and parks and reminders
of
it's railway heritage at
Darlington Railway Centre and Beamish Open Air Museum.
