Newton Abbot, straddling the
River Lemon, has been a market town since 1220. Newton Abbot
is a lively, bustling town, offering the visitor a whole range
of markets and historic buildings, lovely parks and a working
malthouse. Newton Abbot grew substantially with the introduction
of the railway in the 19th century. A National Trust run property,
Bradley Manor, is a 13th century manor house in its own secluded
woodland setting, with a notable great hall - emblazoned with
the royal coat of Arms of Elizabeth I.
