Newton Abbot, straddling the River
Lemon, has been a market town since 1220. Newton Abbot is a lively,
bustling town, offering the visitor a whole range of markets
and historic buildings, lovely parks and a working malthouse.
Newton Abbot grew substantially with the introduction of the
railway in the 19th century. A National Trust run property, Bradley
Manor, is a 13th century manor house in its own secluded woodland
setting, with a notable great hall - emblazoned with the royal
