Many old mill-town stone buildings characterise the centre of
New Mills. New Mills is becoming more of a tourist attraction,
being set in scenic landscape whilst having proximity to many
shops & services. The New Mills Walk begins in a deep gorge
below the centre of New Mills, making it different from any other
walk in Derbyshire. Along the way it takes in the spectacular
Torrs Millennium Walkway (photo). For the canal and boating enthusiast,
part of the Peak Forest Canal follows the main A6. A well equipped marina at New Mills hires out narrowboats
during the season. New Mills is 2
miles north of Whaley Bridge,
7 miles east of Stockport and 6
miles south of Glossop.
