The
Newcastle Emlyn hotels listed below are either in the
town or we have given a rough guide as to how far they are from
Newcastle Emlyn. We hope you enjoy your stay and find your ideal
accommodation.
Newcastle Emlyn is a busy market town
in the Teifi Valley, Carmarthenshire, 10m SE of Cardigan. Newcastle
Emlyn grew around a crossing point on the river, the castle was
built in 1240 on a high point with the river on three sides,
a natural defensive position. It was captured in 1287, strengthened
in the 14th century and badly damaged in the 15th century, then
ruined in the Civil War when the walls were destroyed. Today,
although the castle is in ruins, Newcastle Emlyn is lively and
attractive with antique shops, crafts, a covered market and theatre.
It is only a short distance to the Henllan Railway station where
the narrow gauge Teifi Valley Railway takes you through the beautiful
Welsh countryside. Also see Newcastle
