& Art Gallery was one of the first purpose built museums
in Scotland. It opened in 1842 housing collections of local archaeology,
social, industrial and maritime history, fine and decorative
art, natural sciences, collections of Pictish stones, Montrose

Scottish
Wildlife Trust - Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre, Rossie Braes,
Montrose DD10 9TJ. Tel: 01674 676336. Montrose Basin occupies
the sheltered firth of the River South Esk in Angus. The basin
was designated as a Local Nature Reserve in 1981 and provides
a rich feeding ground for thousands of resident and migrant birds.
Bird populations here are thriving, with birds coming from all
directions, stopping in Montrose Basin to refuel on their long
journeys. About 1 mile south of Montrose. |

House of Dun, Montrose, Angus DD10 9LQ. Tel:
01674 810 264. This beautiful Georgian house, overlooking the
Montrose Basin Nature Reserve, was designed by William Adam and
completed in 1730 for David Erskine, the 13th Laird of Dun. Grand
public rooms with elaborate plasterwork by Joseph Enzer sit alongside
family apartments. The house contains collections of 18th and
19th century furniture, porcelain and portraits. About 2 miles west of Montrose. |

Caledonian Railway is a wonderful day out for all the family
with a wide variety of things to do and see. The unique Victorian
terminus at Brechin has lots of period charm and atmosphere,
and having boarded your train you will journey back in time as
you travel the falling grade to Bridge of Dun.
