	Melrose - Other information - Melrose has a rich history, with architectural attractions, museums and exhibitions including the oldest continuously inhabited village in Scotland. Melrose Abbey is one of the four great Border Abbeys built during the 12th century, home of the Cistercian Order in the reign of David I. Originally very plain, it was rebuilt in the 15th century and became very ornate. Much of it is still standingand it is reputed to be the burial place of the heart of Robert the Bruce.
