The central plateau of the Peak
includes the beautiful valley of the Wye with its scenic wooded
dales, Lathkill and Bradford amongst them. Miles of drystone
built walls enclosing long narrow strips of land show the early
village field system. Bakewell and Ashford-in-the Water are two
popular villages, both early crossing - points of the Wye with
their pack horse bridges.
