The
valley of the River Derwent cuts through the
landscape of the south eastern area
of the Peak. At Matlock Bath, the valley is gorge - like with a high exposed
limestone rockface, whilst at Cromford the valley is more wooded, with the
road, expanse of river, the canal and railway all
occupying the valley floor. There is much
to see in the area - Ashbourne, Wirksworth, Matlock, Belper, Cromford,
Parwich, Tissington, Fenny Bentley and a wealth
