The
eastern part of Yvelines , as well as its northern part along
the Seine, are part of the Paris metropolitan area, but the rest
of the department is rural, much of it covered by the Rambouillet
Forest. Mantes-la-Jolie is located in the western suburbs of
Paris 48.4 km from the centre. Louis XIV instituted the manufacture
of musical instruments in Mantes, and it was chosen as the centre
of brass and woodwind manufacture. Today the well known Buffet-Crampon
woodwind factory is located in the neighbouring town of Mantes-la-Ville. |
