Manningtree and Mistley are two picturesque adjoining villages. Manningtree is a market town and is England's smallest recorded town. It is pleasantly situated on the south side of the river Stour, where the river widens into a broad estuary. Manningtree has many elegant buildings with Georgian facades. For two centuries, Manningtree was an important brewing centre and port. Manningtree High Street has an excellent selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. Mistley is still a small but thriving port. Nearby is Flatford Mill where Constable painted his most celebrated painting, the Hay Wain. Bridge Cottage serves as a free Constable museum and nearby Willy Lott’s Cottage, which featured in Constable’s works, looks very much as it appears in the paintings. 	Mistley Place Park Animal Rescue Centre, New Road, Mistley, Near Manningtree, Essex CO1 11ER. Animal Rescue Centre Tel: 01206 396048. This Animal rescue centre is home to over 2,000 rescued animals and birds ranging in size from Mice to Shire horses including Cats and Dogs, infact most indigenous species. Many of these animals roam around the site freely (where practical and safe) for you to fuss over and enjoy. www.mistley.org.uk. Location: On the outskirts of Manningtree.

	Mistley Towers are the twin towers of the now demolished Church of St. Mary the Virgin at Mistley in Essex. The lodges built in 1782 for the hall still remain, standing to the East of the Towers. Location: On the outskirts of Manningtree.

	Dedham Vale and Flatford - Constable Country. Flatford Mill is on the River Stour close to the Suffolk-Essex border. There is a tiny 16th century thatched cottage (Bridge Cottage) beside the river, now owned by the National Trust. Famous location for John Constable's idyllic pastoral paintings. About 2 miles west of Manningtree.
