Malton sits in the centre
of Ryedale, north Yorkshire. Malton is the site of a Roman fort,
with artefacts in the Malton Museum, located in the old Town
Hall right in the centre of Malton's Market Place. In the centre
stands the Gilbertine Priory - St Mary's. Malton Castle is also
located in the town centre. Over the river and joining Malton
is Norton. The two towns are really one but the locals insist
they come from either Malton or Norton. Many old shops and houses
in the town centre have been demolished & replaced by new
shops. Malton is an ideal base to explore the area & particlarly
the North Yorkshire Moors. Ryedale sits between York and the
Heritage coastline of North Yorkshire. It is an area of spectacular
scenery and market picturesque towns and villages. Malton
