Malton sits in the centre of Ryedale,
north Yorkshire. Malton is the site of a Roman fort, with artefacts
in the Malton Museum, located in the old Town Hall right in the
centre of Malton's Market Place. In the centre stands the Gilbertine
Priory - St Mary's. Malton Castle is also located in the town
centre. Over the river and joining Malton is Norton. The two
towns are really one but the locals insist they come from either
Malton or Norton. Many old shops and houses in the town centre
have been demolished & replaced by new shops. Malton is an
ideal base to explore the area & particlarly the North Yorkshire
Moors. Ryedale sits between York and the Heritage coastline of
North Yorkshire. It is an area of spectacular scenery and market
picturesque towns and villages. Malton is 7 miles south of Pickering & 20 miles from Scarborough.
