RACECOURSE. Tradition has it that in the fourteenth century soldiers
from Ludlow Castle came here to match their horses. There is

Castle is the finest and best preserved 13th century fortified
manor house in England. It nestles in peaceful countryside near
the Welsh border, with its timber framed Jacobean gatehouse and
the nearby Parish Church. The Great hall still retains its original

Ludlow lies in the border county of Shropshire, one
of England's least populated and least spoiled counties, stretching
from its winding Welsh border to the edge of the urban West Midlands.
The remotest and most beautiful parts of the county are the southern
and western edges where the twin ridges of Wenlock Edge and the
Long Mynd are excellent for walking and hang-gliding. The county
