Littlehampton attractions

		From Littlehampton the rural and coastal county of Sussex can be accessed. The county is now divided into East and West Sussex and is bounded on the north by Surrey, east by Kent, south by the English Channel, and west by Hampshire. It is an area with a fertile coastal plain along which are scattered numerous resort towns including Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne, Seaford, Brighton, Shoreham-by-Sea, Worthing, Littlehampton and Bognor. The South Downs Way runs along the grassy ridge of the South Downs, giving splendid views over the countryside and the coast over the chalk cliffs of Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters.

The new visitor centre at Arundel is surrounded by ancient woodland and overlooked by the town's historic castle. The wetlands at Arundel are home to many rare species of wetland wildlife. Note: dogs are not allowed in WWT Centres, except for Guide Dogs. Charges apply. www.wwt.org.uk. About 3 miles north of Littlehampton.

	Arundel Castle, Arundel, West Sussex BN18 9AB. Tel: 01903 882173. Set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. It is one of the Treasure Houses of England, and home to priceless works of art. Paintings and furniture, tapestries and stained glass, china and clocks, sculpture and carving, heraldry and armour in stunning room settings. www.arundelcastle.org. Location: About 2 mile north of Littlehampton.

	Fontwell Park Racecourse, Fontwell, Nr Arundel, West Sussex, BN18 0SX. Tel: 01243 543 335. Fontwell Park is a diverse leisure venue that offers everything from horse racing to large outdoor events such as concerts. The Racecourse is undoubtedly one of the most intimate and friendly racecourses in the country. www.fontwellpark.co.uk. Location: About 6 miles north west of Littlehampton.

	Barnham Windmill, Yapton Road, Barnham, Bognor Regis, West Sussex, PO22 0BD. Tel: 01243 555728. Barnham Windmill was operational between 1829 and 1963. It is currently being restored (2006) to full working order. Still worth a visit and the tea rooms are open. About 3 miles west of Littlehampton.
