Lewisham
is about 7 miles from Charing Cross, Westminster, generally accepted
as the place for measuring the distance to and from London. It
is situated in southeast London, south of the river. In 1977
the Lewisham Shopping Centre was built and in 1994 the High Street
in the town centre was pedestrianised allowing a traffic-free
street market and an open space. If you are flying to/from London,
Gatwick airport is about 35 miles from Lewisham and London city
airport is about 9 miles from Lewisham. Your nearest mainline
