of Lewis - Other information - The Isle
of Lewis in theWestern Isles is a fairly flat island with spectacular
sandy beaches and a rugged coastline. Many visitors come to see
the ancient Calanais (Callanish) standing stones, but the area
is good for fishing, cycling, walking and bird watching, with
the possibility of seeing otters, seals, eagles or dolphins.
With a population of 8000, Stornoway is the capital of the Western
Isles, the airport and ferry terminal here provide links to the
mainland. |
