St John's church Chester

Other information The Parish of Chester contains the two most historic churches in Chester, St John's, the original Cathedral of Chester and St Peter's, the Guild Church of the City. St John's lies outside the city walls on a cliff above the north bank of the River Dee and is a Grade I listed building. St Peter's, also a Grade I listed building lies at the Cross on Eastgate Street in the centre of the city. (Tel:01244 403634). Location: In the centre of Chester.

Chester Cathedral

 A place of worship for over 1000 years. Parts of the Norman church begun in 1092 can still be seen in the present building, which reflects all the Gothic architectural styles. The finest Quire stalls in Britain have intricately carved "misericords" and there is a facsimile of Handel's Messiah first rehearsed here. Beautiful monastic cloisters and garden.
