722 464 - Abbot Hall is a Grade I Listed Georgian building in
a beautiful setting on the banks of the River Kent, surrounded
by a park and overlooked by the ruins of Kendal Castle. There
are collections of modern works in the upstairs galleries while
downstairs, 18th century paintings can be seen in their period
setting, alongside furniture and objets d'art of the time. There
is a collection of society portraits of the day including key
works by George Romney(1734-1802), who served his apprenticeship

built around a 13th century pele tower. It is the family home
of the Bagots and contains a collection of Jacobean furniture,

Sizergh

with gardens, two lakes and a superb rock garden. There are short
walks from the castle to dramatic viewpoints over Morecambe Bay

Lake
Windermere is the largest natural lake in England and according
to Wordsworth, "None of the other Lakes unfold so many fresh
beauties". Rowboats are available for hire, with stylish
steamers and vintage cruisers to Lakeside in the south and Waterhead
at the northern end. There is a ferry service across the lake
to Sawrey giving access to the western side and to Beatrix Potter's
former home at Hill Top. About
