Kendal is a grey limestone town with narrow yards and lanes of weavers cottages, branching off the main street. There were once about 150 of these yards in Kendal, often named after the owner of the main house. Kendal is a historical town with many attraction and is famous for its mint cake. The hilltop ruin of Kendal Castle dominates and overlooks the town. From here you can enjoy views over the town. Kendal has much to offer in the way of shops, pubs and restaurants, and was once voted the best place to live in England. At filter junction, right past County Hotel keep in right lane, after pelican crossing turn right, the hotel is on the left. The entrance to the car park is on the left past the hotel. Station: OXENHOLME. 2.5miles. Travelling to Kendal from the North or South by car from the M6 take exit 36, onto the A590, signposted to South Lakes and Kendal. Do not take the left turn to Barrow but continue on the A591.You will pass a BP petrol station on the left, take the next exit onto the A6 - South Kendal. Please follow this road and you will find the Hotel on the left-hand side at the brow of the hill. If you go over the hill you have gone too far. The hotel car park is at the rear of the building but you may wish to unload your luggage at the front door.
