There were once about 150 yards in Kendal, often named after the owner of the main house. Kendal is an historical town, close to the National Park boundary offering many attractions. Kendal Museum is owned and managed by South Lakeland District Council. Kendal is the gateway to the Lakes and is famous for its mint cake. The hilltop ruin of Kendal Castle dominates the town.
