Jonzac is a town in the Charente-Maritime
department in the Poitou -Charentes region. It is a spa town
traversed by the Seugne river, with the Atlantic beaches less
than an hour away. The historic town has a very attractive old
quarter with medieval streets and intriguing craft and curio
shops. Jonzac has a rich and varied history. The chateau dates
from early medieval times and was substantially rebuilt in the
15th century. The town had a particularly successful history
during the 17th century when it was famous for the tanning industry.
Today, it is a centre for tonnellerie – making barrels and
pallets for the local cognac industry. Pleasant shops, a very
good covered market, boat trips on the river, a huge leisure
pool on its outskirts, an open air lakeside leisure complex,
a casino, restaurants, and a thermal spa are just some of the
attractions. |

of the area left a legacy of rich architectural and cultural

de Compostela left impressive Romanesque churches such as those
at Poitiers and Parthenay. The Atlantic coastline and endless
sandy beaches are an attraction to this area, while inland the
lush countryside offers fine architecture, navigable waterways
and the finest wine and brandy. |

cosy and beautiful restored house (160 m2), lies in a splendid
area close to Royan, between the grapevines of Bordelais and
the Cognac, where you can spend wonderful days. It is a pleasant
furnished house and equipped with all the necessities. There
is much to do in the area. Walks to the sea (about a house) and
to the hinterland for example. Beautiful nature areas, picturesque
cities (Bordeaux, Angoulême, Rochefort, Royan, natural
pole of Viterzay) and the splendid gastronomy, it is all available
for a fine holiday!
