Snipe Dales Nature Reserve, near Hagworthingham

Waymarked trails lead through both the nature reserve and country
park where you can enjoy ponds, broad open, rides and steep sided

Bolingbroke
Castle, Old Bolingbroke. An interesting 13th century stone enclosure
fortress. Surrounded by a large moat are the remains of a hexagonal
curtain wall with a twin-towered gatehouse, an octagonal tower
and semi-circular towers, flanking the angles. The site is managed
by the Heritage Trust of Lincolnshire.

St. Mary's Church, Horncastle. The Church
of St. Mary's has the 13 scythe blades said to have been used
in the Lincolnshire Rising of 1536. On the South Aisle wall is
a memorial to Sir Ingram Hopton who was killed at the Civil War
Battle of Winceby in 1643. The Battlefield site lies near Snipedales
Country Park and Nature Reserve, east of the town. Location: In the centre of Horncastle. |
